ABOUT

G.I.R.L.S. (Gender Inclusivity through Radical Love and Support) ROCK RENO (GRR) is an annual music summer camp at The Holland Project for youth ages 9- 17. GRR provides music instruction in vocals, guitar, bass, and drums to youth of all skill levels, supported by valuable workshops in rock history, screen printing and button making, radio production, stage confidence, and more. We strive to promote self-love with programs that foster not only creativity and community-building, but also confidence and empowerment. GRR promotes skills which help guide participants throughout their lives.

Our goal is to counter the underrepresentation of women and people of marginalized gender identities in music, and we are committed to creating a positive, inclusive environment. We welcome all self-identified girls, trans and non-binary youth to participate. GRR 2023 will return June 19-24!. The camp will again feature hands-on instruction and mentorship from fantastic musicians in our community, workshops and skill-building opportunities, guest performances, speakers, and more.

GRR is proud to join the ranks of girls rock camps world-wide. We are grateful for the knowledge camps in Seattle, Portland, Oakland, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Chicago and more shared to lay the foundation for our camp, and to the many musicians and community members who lent expertise, experience, and time to build Reno’s iteration!

In addition to the summer camp, GRR hosts meet-ups, workshops, and open house events throughout the year.

What People Are Saying

As a mother and a music lover, I am deeply grateful to you and everyone who made the past week so beautiful for these girls. Holland Project did something amazing and special for my daughter, the community, the future of Rock n Roll. Thank you!

I learned a lot more about the bass than just playing it all on my own. This camp has really reached us all in our own way, for sure. I’m someone who isn’t exactly confident, and I spend so much of my life just going, ’I don’t know, I don’t know.’ But it even reached me, which is kinda crazy. I really appreciate my time here.

—Lenore (age 17)

I’ve been pushing myself to do things that scare me, so when I was asked to host a Music History workshop for Girls Rock Reno, I was both excited and terrified. My fear of public speaking has loomed over me since adolescence and I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. What resulted was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The kids were great and the volunteers were incredibly supportive. The workshop ended with a Salt-n-Pepa dance party and I couldn’t ask for more. Thank you GRR for being so awesome! In the wise words of Dolly Parton, “You’ll never do a whole lot unless you’re brave enough to try.”

My daughter, Grace, did the GRR camp this summer. As school starts up again I've been reflecting on her summer experiences and, with all honesty, the GRR camp was a game-changer for her. It had been quite a while since I'd seen her confidence and energy so high - and it was a beautiful thing to see. And much of that has stuck with her through the summer, now hopefully into the school year as well. The camp you all put together was amazing - between the artists and businesses that helped - she has a whole new sense of community and belonging.
